ODE TO A TRAGIC UNKNOWING
He did not see himself
He does not know himself
For 9 minutes and 29 seconds he thought the man beneath his knee was not himself, but was the “other.”
So he pressed on.
He clearly had no recollection that 4.6 billion years ago, when our solar system came into being that our Galaxy….our Milky Way was formed.
One Galaxy... out of 100 billion Galaxies.
Our Milky Way... forming 30 billion planets, including our precious home. Earth.
Earth. Formed from gravity pulling swirling volcanic gasses and solar dust nebula.
3.2 million years ago, all of our human ancestors found in Ethiopia. Home of our Home.
Ethiopia - the word meaning “red/brown face” some say “burnt face” -
Either way connoting a hue of blackness - sepia-toned melanin. He didn’t recognize himself.
He didn’t recognize the precious being under his knee. He didn’t see the stardust.
He didn’t realize that 97% of all human atoms are the same atoms as stardust.
Leading the late great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr to scribe:
“I can’t be what I ought to be, until you are what you ought to be.
And you can’t be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be.
This is the interrelated structure of reality.”
He missed it.
He didn’t see himself
He didn’t know himself
And for 9 minutes and 29 seconds he thought the man beneath his knee was not himself, but was the “other.”
So he pressed on.
